Help Alex Jenkins Get a Second Chance at Life
At 51 years old, Alex Jenkins has already beaten incredible odds.
Born with Cystic Fibrosis, Alex was given a life expectancy of just 12 years. But through determination, discipline, and an unwavering love for life, he has far exceeded that—spending decades caring for himself, staying committed to his treatments, and making the most of every breath.
Now, Alex is facing his biggest challenge yet:
He has just been listed for a double lung transplant at Stanford Hospital.
Why We Need Your Help
A lung transplant is not just a surgery—it’s a long and demanding journey.
Alex is expected to be hospitalized for several months, possibly up to a year, followed by intensive recovery and frequent medical appointments.
During this time:
- He will be unable to work
- He will need full-time support from family members
- His loved ones will need to stay near Stanford to help manage:
- Medications and refills
- Daily care and recovery
- Transportation to critical follow-up appointments
We are raising $90,000 to help cover:
- Mortgage and essential living expenses
- Food and daily needs
- Temporary housing near Stanford for family caregivers
As a professional percussionist and drum teacher, Alex does not have paid time off. His income depends entirely on his ability to teach and perform—something he cannot do during this time.
Alex’s Story
Music has been more than a career for Alex—it’s been part of how he survived.
As a lifelong drummer, Alex has spent years teaching and playing percussion throughout the Sacramento community. In fact, doctors believe that drumming—similar to chest physiotherapy—may have helped extend his lung function, contributing to his extraordinary longevity.
Alex has:
- Taught drums to children and adults across Sacramento
- Been featured in local news and radio interviews
- Inspired countless students through his passion and generosity
He is known not just for his talent, but for his kindness, warmth, and dedication to others.
Looking Ahead...
Alex is ready for this next chapter. A lung transplant offers him something incredible—a chance at more time, more music, and more life.
We are visualizing BIG FULL BREATHS and a BIG FULL LIFE!
He dreams of:
- Returning to teaching
- Playing music again
- Continuing to share his gift with the world
