Hi everyone, my name is Alexandra Kohler. I am 23 years old, and for the past few years I  have been dealing with the decline of my health. It all started in 2015, when I suffered from a hip injury while playing basketball. The doctors in my hometown couldn’t find anything wrong in the scans, so I continued to try and play through it. Miraculously, I received a Division 1 scholarship to play at Charleston Southern with only one good hip.  I was only able to participate in one practice, before knowing I couldn’t continue with the pain. In one quick appointment, the doctor informed me that I needed to have hip surgery for a torn labrum and also impingement in the joint. Shortly after surgery, I asked what the chances were for my other hip to tear, and he told me it was less than 20 percent chance this would happen. Less than three months later, my right hip started to have the exact pain and sure enough the right labrum was torn and had impingement as well. After these two surgeries, I was never the same again. I started to complain to my parents in early 2017 about my whole body hurting all the time. I noticed that none of my teammates were having these same intense pains. People would assume that I was a hypochondriac, lazy, not motivated, and just wanted to sleep all the time. In all actuality sleep was the one place I could go to not be in pain. The doctors around this time attributed the pain to playing basketball, and claimed the rest of my body pain was coming from compensating for my hips. It is now 2020 and, I am just now getting the proper diagnosis. Thankfully, a doctor finally decided to run my blood work because all of my pain and injuries weren’t adding up. The blood results showed that I have an autoimmune disease called Sjrogen’s Syndrome along with Fibromyalgia. My body has been attacking itself this whole time. 6 years, 4 surgeries, multiple hospital stays, late night ER runs, tons of medications, physical therapy, and several doctors appointments, has taken a huge toll on me physically as well as financially. Luckily, most of what I just stated is covered by insurance, but the new non-traditional treatments are not covered. Nothing has worked thus far, and this is why I am now asking for help. These autoimmune issues have been extremely debilitating compared to the life I used to live. I am only 23 years old, and I have Chronic pain, fatigue, brain fog, and insomnia to name a few of the symptoms. I can no longer stand more than 30 minutes, and taking a shower completely wipes me out. Due to these conditions, I am not able to work. The donations will go directly  to the process of getting Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy, which has been proven to help with chronic health conditions by reducing inflammation, and repairing damaged tissues. Autoimmune diseases are unpredictable, therefore, if there is any leftover money, I will be saving it for any future medical emergencies. I am praying that this treatment will help improve my quality of life. I want to be able to work, and I also want to have a family on my own one day, but knowing the condition I am in now it’s not likely to happen unless there is a dramatic change. I know this is an incredibly hard time right now due to COVID-19, but any donation would be greatly appreciated. I will also be keeping the page open for continuous updates surrounding my health. God Bless.
