Help Alex Fight Cancer & Support Her Family
Alex is one of life’s rare gems—a devoted mum to two young boys , an incredible friend, a loving sister, daughter, niece, cousin, and fiancé. She’s a whirlwind of warmth, humour, and resilience. Her zest for life is infectious, and her strength is nothing short of extraordinary. She is wickedly funny and one of life’s beautiful unique sparkly diamonds.
But life has gone full-on citrus overload and handed Alex an absurdly massive bag of lemons. In true Alex style, she didn’t just take it on—she grabbed a juicer, a cocktail shaker, and probably a blender too. Lemonade? Of course. Limoncello? Absolutely. Margaritas? Definitely, because if life’s going to be this extra, she’s making sure it comes with a salted rim and a slice of humour!
Alex’s passion for her job as a midwife is inspiring. Last year, she made the brave leap to leave her job the NHS and start her own independent practice, dedicating herself to giving families the most personal and empowering birth experiences.
Soon after though, her health deteriorated over a period of several months. She repeatedly sought medical attention and was told she must be stressed, have IBS or have 'bad periods'. Desperate for answers after repeated misdiagnoses and obscenely long NHS waiting times, she and her fiancé borrowed large amounts of money to pursue private healthcare in London, only to be misdiagnosed again.
Alex's health suddenly took a significant turn for the worst in December when Alex finally received the devastating diagnosis: Stage 4 Goblet Cell Adenocarcinoma - an aggressive and incredibly rare cancer of the appendix (affecting only 1-2 in a million people). Two days before Christmas she underwent major cytoreductive surgery— removing parts of her colon and diaphragm amongst other things, along with a radical hysterectomy causing her to be plunged into an immediate surgical menopause. Now, she’s undergoing specialised treatment an hour and half away, in Manchester and is undergoing systemic chemotherapy while also trying to care for her two young boys.
As a self-employed midwife, Alex does not receive any additional sick pay and is currently not well enough to earn an income. Through it all, Alex remains the incredible force of nature we all love—but the financial strain on her family is overwhelming. Any donation, no matter how small, will help ease this burden, allowing Alex to focus on her fight and maintain some stability for her young boys.
Let’s show Alex the love and support she has given to so many. Thank you for being part of her journey.
