In Loving Memory of Alex (Tiny) Farquhar

My name is Antonio, and I’m Alex Farquhar’s son in law. I’m setting up this page to honour a truly remarkable man; my father in law, Alex, known to everyone at Skipton Rugby Club as Alex “Tiny” Farquhar.

Alex joined the British Army in 1975, based at Harrogate for his apprenticeship and then nearly 9 more years with postings all over the world as a radio signalman, making many lifelong friends along the way.

Once settling in Skipton, Alex joined Skipton RFC and played for an incredible 35 seasons; a testament to his love for the game, his unbreakable spirit, and his loyalty to the club.

He was a proud Scotsman through and through, taking all the good natured banter in his stride with a big grin and a quick comeback.

In recent years, Alex faced a fierce battle with cancer and the tough after effects of treatment and fought with the same tenacity he showed on the pitch. Even when his playing days were behind him, he remained a devoted supporter, cheering from the sidelines and staying connected to the club he loved so much.

Now, we’d like to create a lasting tribute to Tiny at the place that meant the world to him; Skipton Rugby Club.

Subject to approval from the club,

we’re raising funds with the aim of placing

a memorial bench at Sandylands, where so many of his happiest rugby memories were made. It will be a quiet spot for players, supporters and visitors to sit, reflect, and remember a true club stalwart – someone who embodied the heart and soul of rugby: camaraderie, resilience, and joy.

Every donation, no matter how small, will help make this happen and keep Alex’s memory alive at the club he loved.
