Alex Bruce Funeral, Celebration of Life, & Costs

Hi, my name is Adam (or A.J. to some) and I had the unique—and so often frustrating—distinction of being the "big" brother to the remarkable human being known as Alex Bruce.

On June 9th, 2023, Alex was in a fatal car crash, turning "just another Friday" into the most painful day in the lives of our family. The wound is still open, painful, and fresh and we're stumbling our way forward in the process of grieving and picking up the pieces that have been scattered in so many places. Many of you know how Alex had a habit of hamming it up and leaving everyone with a smile (or eye roll) and that is a hole that will never be filled. He may have been my "little" brother, but so much of what I've accomplished is because of how I never wanted to let him down. Besides, as he would be quick to remind me, we were, "Only ten months and twenty-seven days apart." And he was the more athletic one... and the more sociable... and funnier... and so much more in so many ways that I could never compare or would ever be caught admitting to his face.

And now he's gone.

And he has left so much behind.

He left behind a wonderful fiancée—Jennii—and, him being the one who managed finances and was the primary source of income, it has put a ton of pressure on her. We are still fumbling through the process of funerary decision-making while we grieve. Even just writing this call for help has been a challenge of its own that I never thought I'd be able to do. I've stopped and started I don't know how many times to compose myself and about the only reason I've been able to get this far is because we really need your help. I hate imposing upon people and asking for anything, but Alex was a master of transactions. Sometimes he took more than he gave and I'd call him a mooch for it, but knowing him was a payment that I know I could never put a price on. It doesn't put us close to even and, frankly, nothing ever will, but...

We could use your help with one final Alex-brand mooch. He has relied on so many people throughout his life and we want to be able to have a chance to celebrate him and thank all of you for impacting his and, by extension our, lives.

The funerary costs are daunting as we make sure the people Alex has touched in one way or another have an opportunity to come together to say goodbye and celebrate the irreplaceable person he was. That is the first thing your donations will go toward. The second use will be to cover the costs to get our and Jennii's families down here to Florida from where they are on the other corner of the country. Everything over that will go to helping Jennii get some semblance of stability in this too-real time.

Even if you can't give a lot, whatever you can spare will be that much more to help us celebrate my brother, Alex Bruce, as a family with his friends—many of whom he considered like family—while making sure that the person who meant the absolute world to him is taken care of.
