After a courageous five-year battle with brain cancer, Alex passed away on January 24, 2023, at her home, surrounded by her loved ones.

Alex touched and impacted many people’s lives whether they were her athletes, coworkers, friends or family. Her smile was infectious and her laugh was contagious. Her strength, perseverance and positive attitude with all the adversity thrown her way were a true inspiration to us all. Alex was a bright light in anyone’s life no matter how long they knew her.

Our family is devastated. After losing Alex’s dad, Chris Berking, to cancer almost seven years ago, we thought we had suffered the worst. The strength that is needed to overcome the loss of a daughter, sister, and soulmate, is far too much to obtain without some help. The family is humbly requesting your donation, if able, to help lessen the financial burden of the costs of Alex’s two funeral arrangements. The family understands that not everyone can do so, but if you can, any amount would be greatly appreciated.

One of Alex’s final wishes was to donate her brain to cancer research. Her goal has always been to help people, even if she is no longer with us. Fortunately, with the help of the Funeral Home director, we were able to donate her brain to the Harvard Brainbank in Massachusetts.

There will be calling hours at the Garner Funeral Service in Potsdam, NY on Friday, February 3rd from 4-7 pm. The memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 4th at 11 am at the Knapps Station Community Church in Norwood, NY.

There will be another Memorial in Gloucester, MA in the Spring of 2023.
