Alex Beck Social Work Grad School Fundraiser!

As many of you know, I’ve been seeking a pathway to a master's degree in social work in order to become a professional social worker and mental health therapist. Because I’ve been out of undergrad for a number of years (almost 20!), it’s been challenging to get accepted into a full time MSW program.

However, I’ve recently received a lot of helpful feedback from admissions departments. They have advised me to take 6 credits of graduate-level social work coursework (in addition to the 3 credits I took at NYU in 2021) to prove my academic ability at my current age. This, along with my already strong resume and essays, will ensure enrollment in a school of my choice!

So, this summer I am taking courses at the esteemed Rutgers University in New Jersey! June thru August I'm enrolled in “Human Behavior and the Social Environment” and “Social Welfare Policy and Services.” I'm so excited to show up for these courses, work hard to achieve the highest GPA I can, and prove that I can succeed and thrive in an academic environment!

This is where I need your help. I need to raise $8,000 to pay for these 2 summer courses. I am not eligible for a student loan for these courses because I am not enrolled as a full-time, degree-seeking student. However, I must take them in order to get accepted into a full-time program this upcoming fall or spring. It’s a bit of gate-keeping that calls for a few thousand dollars up front.

I’ve done the research and these are the most affordable options in this pathway.

Luckily, once I’m accepted into a full-time program, I can receive government aid AND my employer (The Entertainment Community Fund) will pay a percentage of my education as well. So this is just a one-time ask to push me in the door.

Anything you can contribute is of great value to me! This is a long-time dream that I find myself FINALLY set on a clear path. The steps make sense, there is clarity in the process, and the calling feels natural and strong.
