Update from Cammy and Alex 10/25/2023
Hello everyone. This is Cammy. First off I would like to thank everyone who has reached out with their well wishes and support. This has been a long and uncertain journey for us, but your love and support has truly been a relief during this time.
I wanted to come on here and give everyone another update about Alex and his journey. Since being admitted to the ICU a month ago he has undergone two major surgeries, two infections, and extensive physical therapy sessions. He has gone from being unable to move to being able to dress himself and sit up entirely on his own. He transfers into a wheelchair almost everyday and pushes himself to improve his fine motor skills with daily activities. Alex is highly motivated and often when PT shows up he’s the one running the show and telling them his plans of progress for the day. He is so positive and upbeat everyday that he has quickly become the favorite patient for most of the staff. Nurses come in every morning to check on him and say hi even through he isn’t on their patient list that day.
Of course life can’t always be so simple. With his diagnosis I have done everything I can to understand what this means for our future. I have talked to doctors, nurses, and PT staff, and Alex looks up videos of YouTubers sharing similar stories. We have found that while he will be capable of doing everything he was once able to do. It is going to look a lot different and require specialized equipment. We are so lucky to now be enrolled into the VA because they are going to help us obtain much of these materials, but not all of them. With all your help we have used some of the GoFundMe to get the house prepared for Alex’s eventual return home. Like a new mattress that will allow him to transfer easier, home modifications, and moving expenses. It will also help us with all the daily expenses like gas and food while we travel to support him.
Therapy through the VA will include physical therapy, occupational therapy, recreational therapy, psycho therapy, community therapy, personal education, and home inspections to help with modifications. We are excited for the transfer to the VA and hope to post many more positive updates soon!
Thanks again! So much!!!!
Cammy and Alex!
UPDATE: Alex is out of surgery and so far they can say the surgery went well, he is resting now and he is looking a long recovery. Please continue to pray for both Alex and Cammy. As well as parents, this has been a exceptionally difficult time in all thier lives.
For those of you who have donated, shared the post or send messages we thank you!! Words cannot express the true gratitude our family has felt by the outpouring of support. Please continue to pray, send positive thoughts and words and please share this post. Thank you!
Hi my name is Eva Reeder as many of you may already know my nephew Alex Perez was in a horrible motorcycle accident this past week and is currently hospitalized. He had just left the gas station and was traveling at a slow speed when a vehicle didn’t see him and pulled out in front of him. Alex collided into the side of the vehicle and was launched through the side window of the car. Luckily Alex was wearing full gear including a shark fin to protect his cervical spine which likely saved his life however he still endured some major physical injuries. He had to have emergency surgery to completely remove his spleen, he broke his shoulder and collar bone, he has lung contusions and his back is broken at the T4-T6 area. He is also currently paralyzed from the belly button down. He is scheduled for nuero surgery tomorrow with some chance of regaining function. However the road to recover is going to be long and hugely impactful both emotionally and financially.
We are asking for any help that you can offer financially however large or small anything will help the young family. Alex was recently discharged from the Marines as a veteran in good standing and only this weekend completed a certificate school in heavy equipment mechanic and was supposed to start a new job October 9th. My neice Cammy, his wife, graduated in June from the CSU San Marcos and on the day after this accident made it to an interview for a new job in her feild. They are an amazingly driven young couple who are facing incredible hardship but i believe they will endure regardless. Alex after being told he may never walk again was toalking about careers he could have if he needed to live the rest of his life in a wheelchair. He has tenacity and I am hoping and praying for a full recover.
If you are able to help this family in anyway your support would be deeply appreciated. Please if you cannot help financially share this post and pray, send healing vibes or positive thoughts or words to this new family. Thank you, thank you from the bottom of my heart for any help
you can afford this sweet couple.
