Alette Orelien & Family
Donation protected
Alette Orelien and her daughter Amarah are from our "second home" of Hope Town on Elbow Cay and are survivors of hurricane Dorian. While Tim and I are saddened by the devastation Dorian had to the island we hope to retire to, it is nothing compared to the horrific impact the storm had on so many that lost so much in the Abacos. Like others, Alette and Amarah lost their home and all of their personal belongings as well as a close family member in the storm and are in need of support to recover and reestablish a home. Their story is terrifying and ended with nearly 30 of their friends and families including 12 children huddled in the remaining section of one of the few structures still standing to ride out the days of rain and win. Thankfully they were safely taken to Nassau and then to Florida as part of the rescue efforts for the out islands of the Abaccos.
Alette and Amarah were fortunate to find refuge temporarily in Florida along with Alette's mother. The funds will be used to allow her to return to the Bahamas to find legal employment and begin the long process of rebuilding their lives. Anything you can do to help "adopt this Abaco Family" is much appreciated. The initial funds from this campaign will help to pay for rent and food until Alette can find employment legally in the US or back in the Bahamas. She is working towards both of those options as she lays the ground work to rebuild their lives.
I will be withdrawing the funds for Alette and then transferring them to the US bank account she has been able to establish so they can take advantage of your generosity to pay for those basic needs of food, clothing and shelter. They literally lost everything that was in their apartment in Hope Town so your kindness is very much appreciated.
For those who have visited Hope Town, you were likely greeted at the Hope Town Harbor Lodge patio restaurant and bar by Alette or the rest of the team there that we have come to call our friends! For those who have not yet made it to our special second home, our doors will be open as soon as the island can recover.
Alette and her family greatly appreciate your support.
