Alessandra's Fight Against Leukaemia

On the 27th of April 2021 I was rushed to the emergency room and only 2 days later I was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia.

This has been the toughest journey of my life and one that is far from over. I'd like to thank each and every one of you for your continuous support over what feels like a lifetime.

During my time at Royal Melbourne Hospital I joined a research trial "SUBLIME", which happened to be one of the best things I could've done. It allowed me to stray from the usual ALL protocol to access a different drug called Blinatumomab. Due to developing an aggressive form of Leukaemia known as pH-like ALL, without this trial I would have definitely of required a bone marrow transplant, increasing my risk of death and lifelong chronic conditions. Although I am not in the clear yet, I am heading in the right direction thanks to this clinical trial.

It is for this reason that I have decided to create a GoFundMe account to raise money for THE WALTER AND ELIZA HALL INSTITUTE OF MEDICAL RESEARCH. I hope to allow more people to participate in ground breaking research trials, which will help create a better outlook for the recovery of cancer patients. All donations will go directly to the WEHI foundation and with your help, we can transform the future of medicine for cancer patients.

To help raise money for this wonderful cause, Myself, my amazing cousins Luca, Giuliano and Gianni Di Iorio, Dean Di Pietro, my incredible Father and Nonno, my beautiful boyfriend Thomas and our wonderful friends Lucas M, Lucas V, Tom F and Luca Darg will all be shaving our heads to give a massive "FUCK YOU TO CANCER!"
