Hillary's Diabetic Alert Dog

Donation protected
My name is Hillary Harrison and I am a Type 1 Diabetic. I was diagnosed with this scary disease at the age of 7. Through years of dealing with Type 1 Diabetes, I have learned that many people are unsure of exactly what the disease is. For starters, Type 1 Diabetics do not have a functioning pancreas (the insulin producing organ) which continuously affects their blood sugar. Normal blood sugar ranges from 80 to 120. Staying within these boundaries is extremely difficult for me and other Type 1 Diabetics. When blood sugars are too high for a long period of time, it can lead to long term complications such as blindness, amputation, and eventually a coma. Short term high blood sugars come with constant urination, feeling exhausted and difficulty breathing. Despite battling high blood sugar, Type 1 Diabetics also constantly fight low blood sugar as well. Low blood sugars are what can kill any diabetic on a daily basis. Low blood sugar is nearly unavoidable and causes confusion, loss of consciousness, and death. Blood sugar levels in the 70’s are bad while numbers in the 60’s cause confusion. Often Type 1 Diabetics unknowingly let their blood sugars drop to levels in the 50’s which causes disorientation and even the 40’s which is risking consciousness. As brutal as these levels sound, I have recently woken up to find my blood sugar in the 30’s, which is terrifying and potentially deadly. I am lucky to be here today and if it was not for caring people in my life that were available when I was low I would have died in past years.

Luckily, with the advances in technology and human knowledge about Type 1 Diabetes, there is life changing help available. Through personal research and suggestions from doctors, I have decided to go forward with getting a Diabetic Alert Dog. These dogs can smell low and high blood sugars 15 to 20 minutes before they occur and alert me by pawing or other unique signals. The dogs are 87% accurate in their readings and can provide additional help such as: dialing 9-1-1, finding third party help or bringing me a supply for low blood sugar. These dogs are incredible, but costly. The cost for a Diabetic Alert Dog is $15,000 and 100% of the money earned goes to purchasing the dog. I am looking to start the process of getting a Diabetic Alert Dog as soon as possible, but will have up to 8 months after my initial deposit to come up with the money. By overcoming this financial barrier, I will receive safety and a sense of relief that I have never had before. I’m hoping many people will take satisfaction in knowing that your donation could be what saves my life. Once I have raised enough money to put down my initial deposit, I will be posting videos and pictures of my dog during training. In addition, I will be making attempts to conduct other fund raisers. In conclusion, I appreciate everyone for taking the time to read this and potentially donate to a seriously life changing cause. Thank you in advance!
