Meet Alek:

His mother Jenny is one of our Clinical-Technical Experts here at Murphy Orthodontics. Jenny gave birth to a beautiful, strong, ever-smiling little boy, Alek, in June, 2023. Alek was diagnosed with Chronic Kidney Disease-End Stage Renal Failure in October 2023. Jenny has taken a leave from work to care for Alek and prepare for their new normal.

Below is Alek's story as he journeys through a life of kidney disease/renal failure.

"After years of fertility struggles, Alek is our miracle baby! He was born with a genetic change which can cause renal (kidney) disfunction. In his case, he has several cysts on each kidney and his function is critically low. He will need a kidney transplant once he is old enough and weighs more. He will likely need several transplants during his lifespan. On December 13, at the age of 5 months, he had surgery to get a feeding tube, a central line and dialysis catheter placed. Since then, he has spent quite a bit of time in and out of Phoenix Children's Hospital. Due to an infection, dialysis had to start and will continue on a daily basis until he is able to have the transplant.

Through all Alek has been through in his short little life, he continues to smile :) That contagious smile, a long with his magnetic personality brings joy to all those around him! He was born to do BIG things, this little boy will conquer the world one "kid knee" at a time!!" :D
