Alec’s Everesting Challenge for the Arts

Tax deductible
Donate to the Anthony Quinn Foundation and help students receive an arts education, and watch me climb 30,000 feet on my 30th birthday on Tuesday, July 27!

All proceeds will be donated to the Anthony Quinn Foundation, to help provide financial assistance to high school students who wish to attend a recognized pre-college, or summer intensive arts education program.

My creative collective, BBBABEL , will also match the donations you make to the Anthony Quinn Foundation — $1 for every $1 up to the $1000 goal amount. For example, if $500 is raised through this GoFundMe page, we will donate an additional $500 to the Anthony Quinn Foundation.

The Challenge

The Everesting Challenge  is simple: pick any hill and complete repeats of it in a single activity until you climb 29,029 feet – the equivalent height of Mt Everest.

UPDATE: The ride will take place on Tuesday, July 27! We reached our $1000 goal and will be doing this challenge on dirt, on Miwok Trail in the Marin Headlands.  Strava Segment: Miwok Trail

About Me

I'm a designer living in San Francisco, and am on the committee for RISD Alumni Club for the Bay Area. My 30th birthday is on July 27, and I wanted to celebrate it with a fundraiser that combines the three things that have shaped me growing up: art, bikes, and hills.

Art has been central to my personal development — it teaches me how to communicate and express myself, influence others to do good, and grow into a fulfilling career as a designer. Bikes have been my source of inspiration — they bring me to new life experiences and build meaningful relationships with people from all over. Hills put it all into perspective — they teach me to not take life too seriously and that smiling is necessary for getting over it. :)

I wish for others to learn how a little bit of art or a bike ride can change our lives for the better, and to embrace all the climbs and hardships in life.

About the Anthony Quinn Foundation

AQF advocates for the important role arts education plays in personal development and in the overall improvement of social, economic and cultural systems. Central to the pursuit of the Foundation’s mission is the life story of Anthony Quinn. His artistic legacy inspires young adults; learning about the challenges of his youth and the ways in which he overcame them helps inspire confidence in their own creative potential.

Toward these ends, the Anthony Quinn Foundation:

- Provides scholarship support to gifted young adults seeking to further their talents in the areas of Visual Arts & Design as well as the Performing, Media and Literary Arts.
- Sponsors Exhibitions and Creative Retreats.
- Provides access to the creative world of Anthony Quinn, including his private art collections.

About FASTER

I will be riding a custom, steel frame, hill climb bicycle handmade by friends at RISD — William Worm and Brandon Chen. Based in Oakland, FASTER is a bespoke bicycle brand that takes inspiration from vintage motorsports and the mantra, “it’s better to drive a slow car fast than a fast car slow.” Hand crafted with precision and care, we build daily use machines that express our deep enthusiasm for riding for riding's sake.
