The COVID-19 pandemic has brought the island of Cozumel, as it has most of the world, to a halt. Consequently, Aldora dive operations have been shut down indefinitely. The hardworking staff at Aldora, who rely on hourly wages and tips, are suffering financially from this trauma. Their daily income all but disappeared overnight.
Now is our chance to give back to those who have given us so much joy over the years.
Our $100,000 goal will help the divemasters, boat captains, equipment crew, office staff, and their families through this very difficult time. (The amount is based on an estimated 3 months.) This campaign hopes to also help defray out-of-pocket COVID-19 medical expenses should they arise. We anticipate this crisis to be ongoing and hope to raise more, as needed.
Money raised will be wired to Aldora Divers as tax free donations that will be paid to the 24 Aldora employees and 3 Villa employees in an equitable and thoughtful manner with a number of individuals overseeing the process. Any surplus donations remaining at the end of the pandemic impacted period will be donated to a worthwhile Cozumel cause, to be chosen by donors from among a selection of candidate causes.
We recognize that COVID-19 is having a global impact and many of us are facing our own crisis. Any amount you are able to donate, no matter how small, will be greatly appreciated and will go a long way to help them survive until this pandemic passes. After all, scuba diving is life; everything else is a surface interval...
