Aldin Zukic's Memorial Fund

My name is Aldijana and I received the worst phone call of my life last night.

My brother, Aldin, has been killed.

Not only has he been killed, he threw himself in front of a train.

Aldin had a controversial personality, and his life was filled with extreme highs and lows.

Life was not easy on him- he had to leave his home of Bosnia when he was only four years old as a war refugee. Then just as he setted into a safe life in Germany, the refugees had to be moved again. Ultimately, this is what led to our family coming to America.

Aldin developed a deep sense of what it meant to be an American, and felt like he had finally found his forever home. So much in fact, that he joined the army.

He was proud to be an American.

Bonding with his miliary comrades was his favorite time of his life.

He was a proud member of 3rd Platoon, Battle Company, 1-32 Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade, Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division. During his service he received the Combat Infantryman's Badge for direct combat with Taliban forces in multiple firefights.

I chose to remeber him as the overprotective brother and son, fun uncle, loyal friend, and most importantly devoted father.

We are flooded with all the wonderful memories we had with him;

he was impossible to take a normal picture with because he always made everyone laugh.

His humor helped all of us through many difficult situations.

This fund will go towards covering any expenses incured by his family and towards securing his two young children; Aria, 4, and Liam, 8.
