Alda Moitoso Breast Cancer Fundraiser

Hi, my name is Christie, and I’m fundraising for Alda Moitoso. My children have been looked after by Alda in 2017 and then again in 2019-2022, and I attend her fitness classes. Alda has become like family, and I would like to do what I can to help her as she has recently received a cancer diagnosis and is about to begin her healing journey.

Alda is a caregiver at heart. She is someone who gives her heart, energy and labour to care for those around her every day. She has been a member of the Alderwood community for decades and has been a trusted caregiver for dozens of families and hundreds of children over the years, helping many of them from toddlerhood up to kindergarten prep. She also is an incredible fitness instructor and has a loyal following for her many classes, supporting people of all ages and abilities on their fitness journey. She regularly hosts annual fundraisers for causes she cares about, including The Canadian Cancer Society, Sick Kids Hospital Foundation and The Daily Bread Food Bank. Her Zumbathon event has raised thousands of dollars for others; most notably, her 2019 Zumbathon event raised over $11,000 for cancer research. Alda is a mother and grandmother and cares for her own mother and brother, who live with her.

Recently, Alda has had a devastating breast cancer diagnosis and will need to close her home child care centre and stop teaching fitness classes as she seeks treatment.

A lifelong caregiver for others, Alda is now in need of her community to come together and care for her. As someone who is self-employed, we are raising funds to help supplement her income while she is unable to work and seeks treatment.
