Help Alcira's brother recover in Guatemala

Alcira has worked for Farley's for 12 years and we consider her and her three children, members of our extended family. She has endured more than any person we have ever known. Alcira fled an abusive husband in Guatemala, brought her daughter here via a coyote, was jailed by immigration, won her asylum case and brought her two boys to live with her here in America, survived a terrible bout of Covid early in the pandemic, lost her partner to a stroke during the pandemic and finally achieved her citizenship. She is truly amazing and a pillar of resiliance and strength.

However, this week, tragedy struck her family yet again. Her brother was shot multiple times in Guatemala when we has interacting with someone who was interested in buying his car. A disagreement on the price ensued and the potential buyer opened fire.

Her brother is strong of mind and body and somehow survived the shooting, but he is in a government hospital where they only they provide a bed, an IV, and medical care. Any supplies, medications or food that is needed, must be found and purchased by the family. In addition, he will need surgery to remove the bullet from his lungs, which they will need to pay for as well.

It's hard to imagine this situation playing out in real life and not as a plot in a movie, but this is the world we live in.
