Albie’s Adventures - Coeliac UK

Albie is climbing Snowdon in June to raise money for Coeliac UK. Your support, donations & shares are hugely appreciated.

Albie's story:
Our Albie (aged 8), was diagnosed with Coeliac Disease in January 2024 after spending several months feeling really unwell and generally not himself.

We knew of Coeliac before this but had no idea how serious it can be if untreated or how overwhelming it is to make sure you cut Gluten out of your diet (especially the foods that you previously loved that you can no longer have - KFC for Albie!).

Albie is a ‘silent coeliac’ which means he doesn’t have the typical Coeliac symptoms such as stomach aches, bloating, diarrhoea or sickness.
Like a switch, from Sept 23, Albie has had severe nausea every day for months, extremely pale complexion, anxiety, cannot concentrate, various mood changes, breathless when playing sport, nose bleeds & generally hasn’t felt well or himself (to name a few main symptoms). We never dreamt it would be Coeliac causing this but 4 months on from his diagnosed, we have our bright, energetic and happy little boy back.
We feel it is so important for everyone to know that these ‘silent’ symptoms could suggest Coeliac & the importance of getting tested if you think you could have it.

Albie wants to make a difference for other children and adults with Coeliac and has some plans to help make this happen! Starting with climbing Snowdon, June 24.

It is early days for Albie but it’s so important for him to have a positive focus on this new lifestyle change & he is really keen to raise money for the charity. We want to help support him in achieving this, no matter how big or small.
Thank you in advance for your contribution to this cause that means so much to us.

What is Coeliac?
Coeliac is an autoimmune disease where your immune system attacks the tissues within your gut when you eat gluten. This is a lifelong condition & can only be managed through a Gluten Free diet. Left untreated can cause many issues such as malnutrition, thyroid disease, type 1 diabetes, higher risk of certain cancers, neurological issues such as epilepsy, osteoporosis and infertility.

More information about Coeliac UK: Coeliac UK is an amazing charity that provides extensive support and trustworthy advise to keep you safe of Gluten, they fund critical research into coeliac disease, and fight for better availability of gluten free food.
