Albert's Road to Recovery

Donation protected
Two years ago, one of the most vibrant, kindhearted, cheerful and humble individuals you'll ever encounter was diagnosed with prostate cancer.  Living one of the healthiest lifestyles on the planet, Albert Hislop was confused and devastated by the news.  After a grueling 5-hour surgery, his results were disappointing.  The procedure was unsuccessful in getting his PSA (Prostate-Specific Antigen) numbers to 0.0, indicating remission.

The surgery took a very heavy toll on Albert’s body and health.  He lost weight that, to this date, he is still struggling to regain.  His energy levels have decreased tremendously, making him tired almost on a daily basis.  After using lifestyle interventions to manage his PSA values, in order to give his body time to recover from the trauma of surgery, his numbers are beginning to rise once more.  His medical advisers are trying to coerce  him into X-ray radiation, which is very abrasive as it radiates everything in its path.  Please understand that treatments of this sort weaken the immune system so much that, very often, it is unable to fight off remaining invaders that are always present in our bodies.

We share this with you so you understand why there is grave concern about having Albert go through this procedure.   Upon investigating options for him we found that proton beam therapy to be a better option since it is less invasive, more targeted and controlled.  The injury to surrounding areas of the body is much less than regular radiation.

Unfortunately, his medical group has denied him this care.  We were hoping to hold out for Medicare, but, as mentioned earlier, his PSA numbers are on the rise.  We’re reaching out to you our family, friends, church members, neighbors, associates, ex-students and other well wishers to help Albert with the out-of-pocket expenses of  this treatment.   We know it is very costly but we do not want to risk complicating Albert’s long-term recovery.  It could mean the difference between being cancer-free and reoccurring episode or creating other debilitating health problems.

If Albert has ever been there for you through his kindness or kind words, been there for you by giving of his time and means in your time of need, helped out with other family needs - like running back and forth doing errands, called to find out how you're doing, or filled in for you when you needed someone at the last minute.  If he’s ever just sat with you when you needed a friend, prayed with you when times were tough, calmed you down with his radiant personality, embraced you like he's known you for years, given you tomatoes, peppers or other produce from his garden, opened his home to you, mentored or taught you or your children, encouraged you with scripture or other words of encouragement, fixed or repaired items in your home or visited you or your loved ones when you or they were sick, then you've experienced, like many others, the warmth and genuine affection of this individual.

Though he’s going through many challenges and changes due to this situation, he remains positive, cheerful and faithful.  No one who has met Albert (even for a brief encounter like at a grocery store check out, for example) leaves his company without smiling or without receiving a smile from him.  We hope to keep God’s love flowing through him by affording him the quality of life that will promote a long, inspirational and healthful living.  Please join us with whatever amount you can afford, then share, if you’re so moved, with your circle of influence.

With your prayers and gracious contributions, we’re confident that God will multiply them to His glory and Albert’s recovery.
