Alberto Paz Tango Archive

Alberto passed away nearly eight years ago. Those of you who knew him, know he dedicated his life to preserving and fostering Argentine Tango. He collected many books, videos, CDs, publications, DVDs, art work, photos, all pertaining to the subject and the formation of tango in the USA. He was a master teacher, an accomplished dancer, author, and historian. You can find more about him on Wikipedia.
I packed up his archive and have had it in storage for some years now. I have contacted many educational institutions about accepting Alberto’s archive, to no avail. It seems because of the Internet no one has the need or space for ephemera.
I finally located someone in California to accept the archive and properly catalogue it. He has connections to Stanford University (which has turned my request down), and is hopeful that he will be able to place it there.
I can no longer afford to pay storage fees, and the archive is precariously near to ending up in the dumpster.
It’s packed and ready to go. I’ve been quoted nearly $5,000. to ship it. I just don’t have the money.
So I’m asking tango people, and people who knew Alberto and all he did for tango, to please help me raise the money to ship his archive to the San Francisco Bay Area. This is bittersweet since this is where Alberto started it all with the community there. It’s where we met, and embarked on our 20 year journey of teaching and dancing and writing. We had a great tango life that we shared with so many of you.
My apologies if my hat in hand offends anyone. Anything I can raise will be deeply appreciated.
As Alberto used to say,
Tangazos
