Liana and Luke Albers were very excited to welcome their first child into the world when they went to Regions Hospital in St. Paul, MN and were scheduled to be induced on January 23, 2019. Early in the morning on January 24, Liana experienced an Amniotic Fluid Embolism during labor which caused a seizure and her heart to stop. This rare infliction has occurred only 117 times in the last 10 years, according to her doctor, and the mother mortality rate is 65-80%. She was resuscitated twice and put on life support. Their daughter, Lydia Annemarie, was born via an emergency C section within 3 minutes of Liana’s cardiac arrest. Thanks to many answered prayers and the wonderful care that Regions Hospital provided, Liana survived and Lydia is thriving. The hospital staff calls them the “Miracle of Regions Hospital.”
Liana, a gifted artist/graphic designer, suffered a stroke and is currently undergoing rehabilitation so that she can once again speak clearly, write, do math, draw, drive a car, etc. Her ability to return to work in her current capacity is yet to be determined. Luke, a marine veteran who served in Afghanistan, was going to UW River Falls on the GI bill, but had to stop in order to care for his wife and new daughter, this means his income has stopped as well.
In order to stay in their home, pay bills, and continue Liana's rehabilitation, funds are needed as soon as possible and are greatly appreciated.
