Help build Water Wells in Africa

Al Bayyinah School  Chad Water Well Campaign 

Alhamdulillah I have been involved in a project to build water wells in Chad in Africa. I think you will be hard pressed to find poorer people in this dunya, there are around 30,000 refugees who are your brothers and sisters in a desperate state of need of water wells.

Many of the children are orphans and the women widows after the massacre in their country (they are from the Central African Republic). They have been dumped in the middle of nowhere in Chad by the UN, near the border with CAR. The nearest village to them is 10KM away and the nearest city 130KM away, so this gives you an idea how isolated they are.

We personally arrange for the wells to be built, we DO NOT USE CHARITY ORGANISATIONS, rather we have brothers on the ground who build the wells. Recently, through the Generosity of Allah (firstly) and then the generosity of the people, we were able to build six wells.

So here are some mind-blowing figures masha’Allah (we take the lower end in numbers):

1. Each well provides for the water needs of a minimum of 80 families per day

2. Each family consists of a minimum of 4 people

3. Previous wells have been running for a minimum of 5 years masha’Allah, and all praise be to Allah they have not dried up

4. A minimum of 320 people use the well for all water needs every day, including bathing, washing clothes/utensils, drinking, making wudhu and feeding animals

5. You will be providing water to 116,800 brothers and sisters per year and we pray that the wells will continue like the other wells in the area insha’Allah.

6. If a well lasts like the other wells insha’Allah, then over five years around 600,000 people will benefit from the wells. Please bear in mind that each time they make wudhu and pray from this water then you will insha’Allah be rewarded

7. The water is sweet, so it does not need to be filtered before drinking. They are able to drink the water directly from the well

8. YOU WILL BE PROTECTING THE HONOUR OF YOUR SISTERS WHO WILL NO LONGER NEED TO GO FAR AND WIDE TO LOOK FOR WATER. SADLY, RAPE IS A COMMON PROBLEM WHEN WOMEN GO TO LOOK FOR WATER. THESE WELLS ARE ALL WITHIN THE CONFINES OF THEIR REFUGEE CAMPS.

Each well costs GBP2000. This includes a walled area where women can wash clothes and dishes too. We need to build a minimum of seven wells as they are in desperate need. I appreciate that you will feel that the cost is higher than other projects in Africa, however, the main issue in Chad is that everything is imported.

After this project we will be doing the following projects there:

1. Repairing the dilapidated masjid and madrassa classrooms

2. Helping them start farming – livestock and fruit and vegetables.

This Ramadaan Allah allowed us to provide food for suhoor and iftaar to all of these people. The idea is insha’Allah that next Ramadaan they will not need our help insha’Allah.
