Alan's Vehicle Replacement
Donation protected
My longtime friend Alan Goldfarb has experienced an urgent unexpected need to replace his old SUV, which recently expired. He subsists on Social Security, in a modest place he has been building over several long frustrating years on a country lot in the Mexican state of Guanajuato 10 miles outside of San Miguel de Allende.
His current savings are around a third of what would be required to obtain a comparable used vehicle to reliably handle the poor roads in the area.
I want to help him by setting up this fundraiser, to see if we can provide him with an opportunity to regain his mobility. For now, he is dependent on the kindness and generosity of neighbors for trips to the market or any other needs in town.
I've followed Alan's life and story for around fifteen years. After visiting Guanajuato a couple of times back then when I thought I might live there one day, I started following various people locally on Facebook. Alan stood out because his talent and dedication as an artist and craftsman - the guiding principals of his life. He has (and continues to) approached his work with great commitment, discipline and vigor despite very limited resources and many personal challenges.
His determination and vision for the value of creative work has been a great source of inspiration for me. This is not my first time lending a helping hand; I once financed a veterinary mission to save his old yellow Mexican street dog Leon's failing eyesight - the medical treatment worked, Leon regained his eyesight
and lived 10 more years to an advanced age.
Let's see if we can get Alan back on the road!
