Alan Michael Ray

My name is Erica Kuykendall, and my brother Alan Ray has been in the hospital for going on two weeks. My parents, Sharon Bramlett and Eric Ray, have been there with him the whole time. Below I will give an explanation as to why I have created this GoFundMe. Please, if you can help them, that would be wonderful. They will not ask for help as that is not who they are; however, I will ask for them! We do not and will not ever expect a single dollar from anyone. Please, if you are not able to give, say a prayer for Alan's strength and for my parents' hearts at this time! Thank you.

On Wednesday, June 4, 2025, Alan was admitted to the hospital to receive a course of broad-spectrum antibiotics to help with a virus he was fighting off that was causing a fever. After being on the antibiotics for a few days, he was not getting better; in fact, he started to struggle harder to breathe. On Saturday, he was placed in ICU on a ventilator, for what they thought would be just a few days to help him clear the infection in his lungs. The doctors later determined that he had been fighting human metapneumovirus, a virus of the family that RSV is in. That virus quickly turned into bacterial pneumonia. Knowing what he was fighting, they were able to give him the correct antibiotics. However, they tried to take him off the vent on Friday, June 13th, for a trial period. He was unable to be taken off for the trial. They tried again yesterday, the 14th. He did really well for a few hours but then began to fight harder and harder to breathe, so they decided to put him back on the vent. At this point, he will remain on the vent until they can schedule a trachea. He will then go home with a trach for a couple of months at least so far. We are optimistic that he will have it taken out in a few months after his lungs get strong enough!

However, at this time, my mom and dad have not left his side except to get some sleep so they can remain somewhat sane during this time. This means they have not been able to go to work or earn any income at the moment. As many of you may know, food is expensive when you are not cooking at home.

I have created this GoFundMe in hopes of giving them some much-needed stress relief in terms of money. Not only for food and hotels, but also for the bills that are piling up without any way to pay them.

I know money is tight for a lot of people right now, so we do not nor have we ever expected anyone to give. If you are not able to give, then please just say some prayers for their hearts and for Alan to get better and fight this off!!
