Alana's Lets Get Them off My Chest Fund

Perhaps you already know or you are currently becoming “in the know”, but Alana was diagnosed with breast cancer in December of 2018. She began chemo and forced menopause in March. Since her diagnosis she has found out that she has a genetic form of breast cancer. She will be having a full hysterectomy and double mastectomy on August 1, to be followed with radiation. She will be out of work for 10 weeks.

I got to know Alana volunteering with the community association. She was passionate about her commitment and felt strongly about giving back to the community. I soon found she was the same way with friends. Always offering to help in anyway possible. While she is many miles away from me now, I know I can always count on her. I wanted to create this page to help her through this trying time.  No doubt many others have been on the receiving side of Alana’s selflessness. 

Many have asked for ideas how they can help Alana; contributing from afar meal service, cleaning, etc. Alana has many weeks lined up with friends and family staying with her to help take care of her post surgery, walk Teddy, shop, cook and clean. We feel the best contribution would be this GoFundMe. Initially these contributions can go towards groceries and other basic care costs. Then once Alana is back on her feet, she will be facing significant hospitals bills, so remaining funds will go toward alleviating these costs. Insurance does not cover all costs (deductible, medications and post-op treatment). Any unused funds will be donated to METAvivor a non- profit that focuses on Metastatic Breast Cancer research 100% of all donations go into MBC-specific research grants.      ( https://www.metavivor.org/take-action/donate/)

Alana found the lump herself and asks that everyone perform self-examinations, get an annual mammogram and allow any doctor offering, except perhaps a dentist, to give you a breast exam.
