In Memory of Alan Edgington

A few weeks ago I lost a good friend in the UK, Alan. He married one of my childhood best friends, Katy. I introduced them about 15 years ago. I don't think I've ever met anyone like Alan, nor will I ever again. He had a humor all his own and had such a way with words. The last time I went to visit, he was showing me his book collection and telling me how excited he was to dig into all the new ones he'd bought. And he won't ever get to read them now.

I've known Katy for 25 years, and when I learned that her husband had passed away I just couldn't believe it. I still can't. Katy and Alan opened their hearts to two wonderful adoptive children several years ago and completed their family. This loss is so sudden and tragic for everyone. It is a shock that the kids will live with forever.

Katy now has to organize a funeral, get ready to move, carry on working and parenting, putting food on the table, and somehow figure out what their next steps will be. All while grieving the loss of her best friend. If you know Katy, you know she's very self sufficient and independent. She's tough and resilient and would never ask for this kind of help. But even the strongest people need help. We are asking for donations to help with funeral costs to take some of the burden off of Katy.
