Alaina Grace's Road to Recovery
Donation protected
This Past Saturday our family was hit with a devastating prognosis for our little girl. Alaina Grace is 9 years old and for those of you who know her then you know that Alaina is beautiful, bright, thoughtful, kind and lights up any room. As you can imagine this was a shock to all of us. It’s hard to believe that something like this can happen to such a young life but God only gives us as much as we can handled and I know he is looking over my family and I.
After a couple days of being very sick we decided to take Alaina to the ER. They informed us that her appendix ruptured and while doing an MRI they discovered a mass on her lungs. Within the hour we were rushed to the ICU at Johns Hopkins All Children’s in St. Petersburg. We found out that the mass on her lungs was actually a tumor and it had taken over the entire right lung causing her to only have function of the left lung. David and I were at a loss for words and scared out of our minds. The tumor is so large that it is pressing on her spine which is causing several issues. On top of the tumor, we were told that Alaina is also fighting serious infections in her stomach and intestines and was immediately put on a breathing tube to start pumping the bile from her stomach.
After all of this horrifying news God graced us with the best news of all! Biopsies were done of Alaina’s lungs, abdomen and pelvic area and we learned that the tumor was benign!!! The best news we could have hoped for but still know we have a long road ahead of us.
We are praying that the tumor can be removed but if it is imbedded in the lung they will have to remove her lung entirely. Our doctors have a couple different recommendations including chemotherapy. Unfortunately, the numerous amounts of medicines that they have given her to fight off these infections throughout the body are not working. Our doctors have brought in Infectious Disease Control to help guide us in a new route for recovery.
Our journey is far from over. She is stable but will need more procedures over the next few months.
David and I are so thankful to have our family and friends support however, medical expenses for Alaina are something we were not prepared for. Sadly, at the moment we do not have the proper insurance to cover such a large expense.
We are asking for donations to help bring the joy of life back into our beautiful girl and continue to fight for a healthy recovery.
We know times are tough right now so if nothing at all please keep sending your prayers. They are priceless!
