Alabama Women’s Hockey: A Story of Passion, Perseverance, and a Chance to Make History

Hockey isn’t just a game—it’s a dream, a community, and for us, a family.

In 2023, three determined women—Keara Duffany, Teegan Mathey, and Morgan Grzybowski—set out to create something that had never existed at the University of Alabama: a women’s hockey team. They had no guarantees, no funding, and no certainty that it would work. But they had a vision, a love for the game, and an unshakable belief that women deserved a place on the ice at UA.

What started as an idea became a reality. And now, in our first-ever season, we have made history.

We are the 2025 College Hockey South Champions.

Against all odds, we built this team from scratch, fought through every challenge, and earned our spot at Nationals. In just a few weeks, we have the opportunity to compete on the biggest stage in Jacksonville, FL, from March 5-9.

But we can’t do it alone.

Why We Need Your Help

Alabama Women’s Hockey is a student-run club. We receive no funding from the university, and every expense—ice time, travel, gear, hotels, food—is paid for by our players. They don’t do it for scholarships or recognition. They do it because they love the game.

Now, we are faced with our biggest challenge yet: getting to Nationals.

We need to raise $15,000 to make this trip possible. This money will help cover our travel, lodging, and food costs, ensuring that every player who fought for this moment has the chance to step onto the ice and compete. This will also cover the costs of our coaches expenses during this trip who have helped make this moment possible.

This Is More Than Hockey

This is about proving that women’s hockey belongs in the South. That young girls dreaming of playing one day don’t have to wonder if it’s possible. That when you build something with heart, it can go further than anyone ever imagined.

Our players have put everything into this team—blood, sweat, tears, and every spare dollar they have. Now, we are asking for your help to finish what we started.
