I am Ahmed Al-Akkad, a young man from Khan Yunis in Gaza, 25 years old. Before the war, I was an ambitious young man living a simple life full of hope. I owned a small apartment and a clothing store that I had built with my hard work over the years. Every day, I woke up with new opportunities to build my future and fulfill my dreams.
But then the war came like a violent storm. In an instant, I lost everything. My home, which held my dreams, was reduced to rubble, and my store, my source of livelihood, became lifeless ruins. I couldn’t save anything and found myself facing a harsh and merciless reality.
Amid all this destruction, I decided not to give up. During the war, I made a bold decision to get married. My wife became a source of strength for me, but she, too, lived through an indescribable tragedy. In the early days of the war, on October 17, 2023, her family’s home was completely bombed. In that devastating moment, she lost her father, mother, three sisters, and two brothers. Only she and her younger sister Salma survived.
Despite the pain and the losses, the presence of my wife and her little sister became a turning point in my life. They became my responsibility and the reason I live. Today, I am working to rebuild a new life from scratch. I am searching for work to support my small family, and I am trying to find a space for hope in this shattered world.
The war may have destroyed everything I owned, but it could not break my spirit. Today, I stand tall, like the phoenix rising from the ashes, believing that tomorrow holds a new chance for life..
