My name is Jessica Penland and I am the sister of Al Wilson. As some may know, Al recently discovered he was born with a heart defect called Bicuspid Aortic Valve. It means that he was born with 2 valves in his heart instead of the normal and needed 3 valves. This condition can cause aortic aneurysms and it has with Al. The aneurysm is big enough that surgery is necessary to repair the aorta and also add a third mechanic valve to his heart so it can function properly going forward.
The surgery is scheduled for the middle of January 2024 and, as you can imagine, is a quite serious surgery that will require an extensive recovery period. Al will be recovering in the hospital for at least a week after surgery and after that it will take 3 months of recovery before he is fully healed. During this time, Al will be unable to work while he concentrates on recuperating. In addition to this extended time off work, he will also be adding to his growing medical bills due to this condition.
Al is a hard-working, single father with full custody of his 16-year-old son. He does everything he can to give his son all he can, so this diagnosis and resulting surgery and recovery is definitely a physical, mental, and financial hurdle for him. If you wish, and are able, to donate to ease the financial burden on Al, we would be eternally grateful. We are banding together as a family to do all we can to help Al and his son during this difficult time, but as we all know and have experienced, healthcare costs can easily exceed anyone’s grasp. We would like for Al to be able to concentrate on rest, recovery, and coming back stronger than ever.
We greatly appreciate any donation if you are able. If you are not able to donate, we equally appreciate any good vibes and prayers you can send Al’s way. He is a kind and generous soul whom we all love dearly. Thank you so much for your kind words and support!
