Al Lien Scholarship Fund:

Al was known for his gruff demeanor, but underneath the tough ol' rancher skin, he had a heart of gold and a drive to educate the public. Al was famous for his involvement in the agriculture of the Gallatin Valley. Al's passion for educating the public showed in the many committees and boards he served on throughout the years. He was the historian of the AGAI board who helps local farmer and ranchers keep and manage their water rights in the valley. He did community service for Montana Winter Fair, West Gallatin Canal, Board of Adjustment, Gallatin Saddle & Harness Club, Montana Draft Horse Association, Gallatin County Farm Fair and he often spoke "eloquently" at Gallatin City and County Commission meetings. Al was a first class teamster and often did things the way the people in history tended the land. He fed with his horse team, and when he wasn't feeding with them he fed with his old John Deere two-cylinder 430 tractor. He was a collector of old two-cylinder John Deere tractors and fully restored a John Deere G to its former glory.
