The Miller Family

Donation protected
Dear friends and family,
I wanted to start off by thanking EVERY SINGLE PERSON that has donated, prayed and been there for Jeff and the Miller family! I also wanted to update everyone on where Jeff is and the condition he is in. Jeff is in end stage heart failure, he’s in critical condition and has damage to his kidneys as well as a barely functioning liver.

On September 3rd, Jeff had his first surgery and they inserted a temporary heart pump (Impella) to see if his heart could be stronger and to see if his heart could handle a permanent heart pump (LVAD).
On the night of September 4th, Jeff’s heart stopped. This is when they started saying he is in critical condition but stable. The left side of Jeff’s heart completely stopped working while the right side had VERY little function. He was only stable because he had the Impella, at this point the machine was doing 98-99% of the work when it came to his heart pumping. The harsh reality is that he would no longer be with us if he didn’t have that machine. The next 9 days they pushed multiple medicines, blood thinners and let the machine do the work to see if Jeff’s heart could get stronger with help from the heart pump. His blood ended up clotting and blocking the support from the Impella. They gave him one more night to watch his vitals and see if he was better in the morning. This is when they would make the decision if Jeff could have another surgery and the LVAD.

On September 14th, the doctors made the call to put Jeff through surgery and to get the LVAD. The LVAD supports the left side of Jeff’s heart but since the right side is still so weak the surgeon also replaced the temporary pump to still give his right side the support it needs because his heart is not pumping on his own at all. This surgery is Jeff’s last chance at recovery and coming home. Jeff had open heart surgery and was in the OR for 7-8 hours (for a 4-6 hour surgery) total because they couldn’t stop the bleeding. Jeff is now back in the ICU, still in critical condition. He will stay intubated for a few days because they will have to take him back to the OR and open him back up to get more of the blood out. The surgeon made it very clear that Jeff is in the WORST condition he’s ever seen for heart failure. If it wasn’t for Jeff’s young age they would not have went through with the LVAD It’s gonna be a long road for Jeff. He’ll be in ICU for many weeks. We are still asking for prayers and donations!! Many of us have missed work and Jeff’s sister lost her job because she’s his primary caregiver and is there for Jeff and paperwork and will have to learn many things for when Jeff comes home. Jeff son, Triston, also has not been working so he can do the same and be by his father’s side. Our family lives in Hudson and Jeff is in Asheville. There’s a lot of expenses that go into it: medical, gas, food and all the things Jeff needs while he’s there. Thank you!! We appreciate you all so much!! PLEASE continue to share!! ❤️
