A Priceless Gift to Give to my Daughter
As a mother of six children, it was extremely difficult to learn of my youngest child Akelia’s diagnosis of kidney failure last year ago, at the age of 18. She was about 4 months pregnant with her son when the doctors diagnosed her with preeclampsia and shortly after the discovery she was also diagnosed with Collapsing Focal Segmental Glomerulosclerosis (Collapsing FSGS), which has affected her kidneys tremendously. This type of kidney disease can be life threatening. My daughter’s kidney failure caused her to give birth early and she has been in an out of the hospital for the past year. She was recently placed on dialysis due to the rapid decreased in her kidney function; which is now down to 2%, Stage 5 Renal Failure.
The doctors determined that Akelia is in dire need of a kidney transplant. As a result, Akelia is going through the transplant process to receive a new Kidney. Without hesitation, I volunteered to be her donor and was a match. It has been exceptionally hard for my daughter to endure such a traumatic ordeal as young mother and college student. Which she unfortunately had to recently terminate as a result of her condition.
Akelia is fighting for her life every week. She was suffering from breathing complications, which lead to her being admitted to the hospital again this week for fluid overload and hypertensive urgency. They discovered that she now has Pneumonia. It appears that her loss of kidney function is creating a negative domino effect on her health. It is imperative that surgery is done immediately to fight this disease.
This has been a serious heartbreak for my family and I . We are setting up this GoFundMe to help offset some of the cost of surgery for my daughter and I.
