AKD SCHOOL, BATTAMBANG CAMBODIA
Donation protected
As most of you know I have been following my dream of travelling the world. I have dedicated my last two weeks in SE Asia to volunteering in a non-profit school in Cambodia where underprivileged kids come to learn English to better their futures!
The school is run by Kamnot, his wife and their three children. Kamnot had to leave school as a small child to help on the family farm. At the age of sixteen joined monkhood where he learnt English. Kamnot left monkhood to help better the lives of others and share the valuable knowledge he learnt with others giving you children a future.
Kamnot now offers tours around Battambang in his tuk tuk to support his family all while giving back.
Kamnot and Richard Hicks founded the school in 2005. The school is run and continues to grow from kind donations from others.
Two hundred students attend AKD school. The young children attend public school from 7 am to 12pm and AKD school from 1pm to 3 pm. Monday to Friday. English classes are free for close to two hundred students.
English classes are taught by volunteers. All volunteers pay for their living expenses while at the school.
I have been at the school for close to one week now and has been extremely eye opening.
The country is still recovering from the genecide in the 70’s that killed 3,000,000 people.
The hard working Cambodian people are living in extreme poverty and some families support themselves on $1 a day.
Students ages range from 5-21 years old, all the students are so well behaved and eager to learn English.
They deserve a bright future!!
Currently the school is working towards the goal of building a new library and classrooms for the students!
A small donation would help change the lives of so many students and their families!
NO DONATIONS WILL BE PUT TOWARDS MY LIVING EXPENSES OR TRAVELLS ALL WILL BE GIVEN TO THE SCHOOL TO BETTER THE LIVES OF UNDERPRIVELEGED CAMBODIAN CHILDREN!
