Akamaru Faces Liver Failure
Donation protected
Hello,
My name is Donovan and this is my dog Akamaru. Akamaru is 6 months old and I've had him since he was 6 weeks old. He is an energetic, friendly, loving, and happy puppy. Since the beginning, he would throw up occasionally and we thought it was attributed to him eating random things he found on the floor. Today I bought him home from the ER where he's still sick.
A few nights ago he got out of the backyard and ran into a trail adjacent to our street. When we found him, he was covered in filth and insects with a (suspected) toxic bite/sting on his forehead. He profusely vomited and became weak and lethargic. He would defecate and pee on himself later that night. I rushed him to the ER where they ran different tests. They sent home Akamaru with medications hoping he would recover. Within 24 hours, his condition worsened and Akamaru had his first seizure. I took him back to the ER where he spent the night in ICU. Blood work showed extreme liver dysfunction (ALT > 1000; normal = < 120) with possible liver failure. He's having symptoms of facial twitching, weakness, seizures, no appetite, incontinent, and not fully oriented to his surroundings. His most recent ER visit was about 700 and further extensive treatment will cost me well into the thousands.
The doctor recommends that Akamaru receives aggressive treatment as soon as possible to prevent further complications. This includes diagnostic testing for blood work, Ultrasound, Xrays, and ammonia level screening. With the possibility of him being hospitalized in ICU while interventions such as medications and possible surgeries will be needed.
I'm currently a final semester nursing student and unfortunately, I am unable to afford the extensive payment cost regarding his treatment. I have proof of lab values, hospitalization records, previous diagnostics, and will be completely transparent with the results if need be. Any amount donated is highly appreciated and I just want my puppy to be happy again. Anything would help.
Thank you,
Donovan
