Hello, my name is Patricia Ries Sawyer, and I’m fundraising for my sister, Monica Ries Kindt.

A little over one week ago Monica was diagnosed with stage 3 primary malignant neoplasm of alveolar ridge mucosa that unfortunately metastasized into squamous cell carcinoma. With this being an advanced and extremely aggressive cancer, she and her family will be heading to North Dakota to undergo a very major 12 hour surgery within the next two weeks. There unfortunately are no surgeons in the area able to do this type of combo procedure so her ENT surgeon will be coming along to work with the surgeon out there. This surgery will require them to do a living bone graft from her leg to replace her mandible (jaw) as well as removing the lymph nodes around the area. Following surgery she will be needing radiation and are still waiting to hear whether or not she will be needing chemo. Due to this sudden and unexpected diagnosis, Monica and her family will be needing to take time off of work along with travel and help covering medical expenses. Asking for help is not something Monica has ever been comfortable doing so as her family we are trying to get things going.
