AK Stars Basketball Traveling Team

Hi - we are Kiara and Kayla Villamor.  We are Student Athletes at Unalaska City School, finishing our Freshman and Sophomore year.  We have been playing basketball since we were in Kindergarten and have grown to love the game more and more each year.  We have attended many camps since we were in 4th grade, but this year we wanted to take our basketball skills to the next level.  So when a coach from a previous camp we attended reached out to us and told us about trying out for a traveling team we jumped on the opportunity. We were extremely excited when we were asked to play for a traveling team called Alaska Stars.
Alaska Stars is a nonprofit organization that is dedicated to providing an outstanding basketball and life experience for young women from across Alaska. They will give us the opportunity to play and compete at a high level of basketball, that will allow us to show case our talents to different colleges and athletic programs for our upcoming future.  This program is recognized on a national level by some of the top evaluators and college coaches in the United States. Being part of Alaska Stars will allow us to play basketball in the lower 48 for the whole month of July traveling to Oregon, California, Nevada and Illinois.


Coming from a town of Unalaska where there are less than 5000 residents there is no local opportunities that allows us to play at the level Alaska Stars is able to expose us to.  Being part of our High School Varsity basketball team is the only time we can compete against teams from other parts of the state.  This year our varsity team came close to making it to the state tournament but lost in the final game at Regions by only 4 points.  We are a very young team only consisting of one Senior so we are determined to go back next season stronger with the goal of making it to the state tournament.  My sister and I are determined to help our team become stronger by improving on our skills and increasing our game experience by attending Alaska Stars. So we are asking for your help to allow us to take our love of basketball to the next level.  We want to say thank you in advance for taking the time to learn a little about us and providing us with your support so that we can achieve our dream in playing the game we love at a higher level.
