Dam is an 18-year-old, loving son and brilliant student from the Philippines who was suddenly diagnosed with leukemia.
Dam has been in treatment in a public hospital for the past 7 months, but things are not going great:
- The public blood bank is empty, even for Dam’s blood, which is a common one. This finds Dam constantly dependent on kind souls willing to donate blood directly to him;
- Each blood transfusion (blood + platelet) sums around PHP3.800 | MOP565 | €63 and he needs it frequently in order to rebalance the levels of white blood cells in the body (constantly dropping), therefore enabling him to continue with chemotherapy;
- Hospital bills are piling up, with each hospitalization day charged at around PHP3.000 | MOP445 | €50. Last bill that came in was around PHP95.000 | MOP13,981 | €1.565;
- Dam already lost all of his hair.
Conclusion: No donors = no blood = chemotherapy put on hold = Dam’s not cured
We need to boost his recovery!
Dam’s mother, Tess, is our friend and she has been a fighter who has been enduring this harsh reality from afar, staying put in Macau where she works for the past 3 years. Despite this tragic event, she is restraining herself from going to Philippines because she truly understands that money is priority number one in order to keep affording Dam’s treatments. She can’t even think on the luxury to buy an airplane ticket to be there, holding his hand.
Tess has been coordinating with family members in the Philippines to request aid to local government agencies (a very bureaucratic and uncertain process) as well as creating a fundraising campaign in their village.

O Dam tem 18 anos, é um filho adorável e um estudante brilhante nascido nas Filipinas e que se viu, sem aviso, diagnosticado com leucemia.
O Dam está a ser tratado num hospital público há já 7 meses, mas as coisas não estão a correr muito bem:
- O banco de sangue público está vazio, até mesmo para o sangue de Dam, que é um dos mais comuns. Isto obriga o Dam a estar constantemente dependente de almas gentis dispostas a doar-lhe sangue;
- Cada transfusão de sangue (sangue + plaquetas) custa cerca de 63€ e ele precisa delas com frequência por forma a reequilibrar os níveis de glóbulos brancos no sangue (constantemente em queda), permitindo-lhe assim continuar com a quimioterapia;
- As contas do hospital não param, com cada dia de internamento cobrado a cerca de 50€. A última conta paga totalizava cerca de 1.565€;
- O Dam já perdeu todo o cabelo.
Conclusão: Sem dadores = sem sangue = quimioterapia suspensa = O Dam continua sem cura
Precisamos de potencializar a sua recuperação!
A mãe de Dam, Tess, é nossa amiga e tem sido não menos que uma lutadora, suportando esta dura realidade à distância, permanecendo em Macau onde trabalha nos últimos 3 anos. Apesar desse trágico acontecimento, ela contém-se e abstém-se de ir às Filipinas, com prioridades bem definidas, sabe que o dinheiro é de momento o mais importante, a fim de continuar a pagar os tratamentos do filho. Não se pode dar ao luxo de comprar uma passagem de avião para estar lá com ele.
A Tess tem coordenado com familiares nas Filipinas para solicitar ajuda a agências governamentais (um processo burocrático e incerto), bem como criar uma campanha de arrecadação de fundos na ladeia onde a família vive.
