The Arthur J. Perschino Scholarship Fund was created while Mr. P, as he was so lovingly called, was principal of Columbus Magnet School. This honor was bestowed upon him by Delores Scott, as a retirement gift, because of his dedication, enthusiasm, and love for his students, community and nation. As the principal of Columbus for 18 years, Mr. P. supported, encouraged and inspired all students to be the best they could be through experiential learning. Learning by doing was his mantra and the nationally acclaimed Young Astronaut Program was just one example of the educational experiences that he established where students developed skills that prepared them for the future.
The scholarship was developed to support former Columbus students, upon graduation, with their future endeavors. Recipients are chosen from both Brien McMahon and Norwalk High School. To obtain this scholarship the student must demonstrate; need, leadership skills, community service and a love for learning.
In the past, monies for the scholarships have relied on fundraising events, however this year, since holding these events presents the committee with many challenges, we decided to post a GoFundMe page. We realize that these are financially hard times, but we are appealing to Columbus parents, grandparents, alumni, and all interested to make a contribution, however small, so that Mr. Pś dream of helping each child be the best they can be, is fulfilled.
