Support NE Iowa TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return): New Traps Needed
Donation protected
My name is Erica, and I'm a member of Malanimals Cat Coalition based out of Decorah, Iowa. We are a small group of volunteers dedicated to helping cats in Northeast Iowa and Southeast Minnesota through rescue, foster, and TNR (trap, neuter, release). We are partnered with Camp Companion, which is a 501c3 nonprofit rescue.
Trap, Neuter, Release (TNR) is a program by which feral cats are trapped, spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and released back into the environment. TNR stops the breeding cycle of stray, feral, and outdoor cats, improving their lives while preventing reproduction. We have been doing TNR in the area for 6+ years now. Last year alone, we TNR'd hundreds of local cats; we also took as many adoptable cats and kittens from these TNR sites into foster care as possible and found them indoor homes.
We are already continuing our TNR efforts in 2025 and plan to TNR hundreds more cats this year. However, we've realized that to keep trapping at this level, we badly need new humane live traps. We still use our original fleet of secondhand traps, which have become very worn out over the years. Some of them are broken. Others have gone missing. Worn-out and broken traps significantly reduce our TNR success rate, which works against our mission to prevent future generations of homeless cats. Worn-out traps also pose a safety risk to the cats we TNR.
We have started this GoFundMe to raise money for a new "fleet" of Tomahawk humane live traps. Tomahawk traps are incredibly durable, reliable, and safe and will help us save thousands more cats for many years to come. We are looking at a cost of approximately $2,000 to upgrade all our traps. Please consider donating to our GoFundMe and help us continue our crucial efforts to rescue and TNR cats in Northeast Iowa + Southeast Minnesota. Both humans and cats say "THANK YOU" in advance!
