AJ "Our Asian" Eckley

AJ "Our Asian" Eckley was in a tragic accident April 27th while at a local swimming spot with friends. He dove into shallow water and sustained major injuries to his neck. Thankfully, his roommate and best friend pulled him out of the water within seconds, and two other friends in the medical field were there and able to perform CPR before medics arrived. The next morning AJ received emergency surgery to relieve the pressure on his C3 and C4 disks. It has been 3 days, and we are hoping the ventilator will be removed today and he will be able to breath on his own. As of today AJ has very little mobility in his body but has been able to wiggle his toes and can feel pressure on his hands and chest. These are all very positive signs, and the doctors and hospital staff are optimistic.

AJ is strong and outgoing person whose presence anywhere brings positive vibes to everyone around. He is always there to help when you need it, and is the “official” selfie photographer who always remembers to post everything on FB the next day. The only thing as big as his heart is his support team. We are all ‘family” and refer to each other as such constantly. This is the family that AJ chose and we chose him as well. AJ has not been alone since this happened and his large circle of friends have been scheduling shifts at the hospital for the upcoming weeks so he always has someone by his side.

Once AJ is out of the ICU and the hospital he will be facing months of difficult rehab and extremely costly procedures. He has not been with his existing employer over a year, so can’t receive short term disability. While we know it could take a year or more to get back to his normal self, we hope he will be able to put his god kids on his shoulders and take him through the Disney parks once he is better.

My name is Matthew Lenavitt one of Aj's many friends. We have been thru a lot together but I know this will be the biggest challenge yet. All of these generous donations will be used to help Aj get the rehabilitation he needs and cover his expenses while not being able to work.

Please help "Our Asian" anyway you can. If you aren't in a position financially we ask that you share this link on FB as well as sharing it privately with 2-5 people you think would be able to make a contribution of any size. I know there are many people spending day and night with him providing love, assurance, and comfort. If you would like to send a card we will provide an address in a following update. Thank You!
