Ciao, mi chiamo Marco Varoli e sabato un furto ha stravolto il mio lavoro.

Mi occupo da oltre 10 anni di fotografia, con un focus particolare su libri di viaggio, cibo e ristoranti e il mondo hospitality.

Ritengo che la bellezza del cibo e la sua capacità espressiva sia capace di far riflettere le sfumature e il “sapore” delle abitudini e della vita quotidiana delle persone – e di quella cosa spesso ambigua che chiamiamo cultura. Per me Il cibo è un artefatto della vita.

Domenica 15 giugno mi trovavo sul treno Trento - Roma per uno shooting a Napoli, e all'altezza di Verona, alla stazione di Porta Nuova , in un momento caotico di salita/discesa passeggeri , sono stato derubato del mio zaino fotografico.

Si è salvato solo il computer dato che lo avevo in mano.

Purtroppo ho subito un danno enorme in quanto all'interno c'era tutta la mia attrezzatura foto/video e seppure qualcosa sia coperto di assicurazione, non basterà a recuperare tutto.

Sono rimasto senza parole: quel materiale è fondamentale per il mio lavoro , con cui mi guadagno da vivere.

Hi, my name is Marco Varoli, and a theft last Saturday has turned my work upside down.

I’ve been working as a photographer for over 10 years, with a particular focus on travel books, food and restaurants, and the world of hospitality.

I believe in the beauty of food and its expressive power to reflect the nuances and the “flavor” of people’s daily lives and customs — and of that often ambiguous thing we call culture.

To me, food is an artifact of life.

On Sunday, June 15, I was on the Trento–Rome train, heading to Naples for a shoot. While the train was at Verona Porta Nuova station, during a chaotic moment of people getting on and off, my camera backpack was stolen.

The only thing I still had with me was my laptop, which I was holding.

Unfortunately, I suffered a huge loss: all of my photo and video equipment was inside that bag. Although some of it is covered by insurance, it won’t be enough to replace everything.

I was left speechless. That gear is essential for my work — it’s how I make a living.
