Aitor presenta Retraso psicomotor severo, Epilepsia refractaria, Disfagia, Hipotonía, Escaso control cuello-cabeza, Parálisis cerebral.
¡Muchas gracias!
ENGLISH:
Hello! My name is Alejandra Lamus, and I have created this fundraiser to support my friends Lorna and Vicente (at their request). Their 9-year-old son, Aitor, has been in the Intensive Care Unit since April 3rd.
DIAGNOSIS:
Bilateral pneumonia with pleural effusion, worsened by his lissencephaly.
He URGENTLY requires thoracic surgery to drain the fluid and save his life.
All of this is due to the fragility of his airways, caused by his condition called lissencephaly, which makes common colds and dysphagia become dangerously complicated.
The surface of Aitor’s brain is smooth. Unlike most of us, his brain does not have folds or grooves. This is a congenital malformation that causes a severe neurological disorder.
It is a rare disease. In fact, it affects approximately 1 in 100,000 newborns—that is, about 10 in every million people.
Lissencephaly has no cure and cannot be reversed.
It leads to many complications, among which the most important are controlling seizures and caring for his airways. These are his greatest vulnerabilities and the leading causes of death.
Aitor has severe psychomotor delay, refractory epilepsy, dysphagia, hypotonia, limited head and neck control, and cerebral palsy.
Due to difficulty swallowing, poor secretion management, and reflux associated with his condition, it is common for liquids or solids to cause pulmonary aspiration and respiratory illnesses.
Aitor is deeply loved, and every day he is cared for and stimulated even more. He shows great strength. He is a beautiful, sweet, cheerful, and kind child—a true warrior. He has his own ways of communicating and expressing happiness.
You can be a lifeline. Thank you so much!
