Hi, my name is Echo and I'm starting this fundraiser to help the people impacted by the earthquake in the small village of Ait Tamlil in Morocco.
This past spring I travelled to Morocco I got to first-hand experience the wonderful sights and amazingly friendly people. Our tour guide on the trip was a fantastic human named Aziz, who I could tell early on cared deeply about spreading the wealth brought in from his work to smaller, lesser-known places and people.
We've kept in touch, chatting about a business he has started, in the months since my trip. We've become friends.
When I heard about the earthquake, I knew Aziz would be helping wherever there was going to be the most need. Within hours he had reached out, and he was already making plans of how to help. He told me about Ait Tamlil, not far from where he grew up and how so much of the village has been destroyed by the earthquake. It's in a rural part of Azilal Province, in the High Atlas mountains. It's an area not likely to get the same sort of news coverage as a place like Marrakesh. Most of the buildings there were of traditional earthen construction, and the village crumbled under the intensity of this earthquake and the aftershocks.
Aziz is well-connected with locals of Ait Tamlil, and will distribute funds to individuals, families and businesses in need of immediate aid, ensuring they can buy food and water, access temporary shelter, and pay for transportation. As a clearer picture of what is most needed emerges, I will update donors about how funds are being directed.
Please donate what you can. Every little bit helps.
