Release the Hound: Dewy Needs Air!
Donation protected
Think about your breathing ... then meet Dewy:
A 10-year old American Eskimo/Pomeranian, Dewy and his brother/littermate, Thor, are buddies with sweet but distinct personalities. Dewy is deaf, so Thor is his "hearing-ear" dog. They get along quite well with this arrangement!
The problem is that for the last three years, Dewy has coughing fits, almost like he's got an extreme hairball. In the last six months, it's gotten much worse, happening more frequently, with longer and more upsetting episodes wracking his body. When not having a fit, he's charming and energetic, so we'd really like to see him live out his happy life without distress! Plus without Dewy, Thor will have lost his secondary purpose.
The vets don't know what's wrong. To find out, they'll need x-rays and bloodwork. Since his symptoms aren't eased by antibiotics or antihistamines, one vet think it's probably a collapsing trachea, which will require surgery to install rings. If not that, he may need surgery for removing a flap, or a tumor.
The money you donate will be used for diagnostics, probable medication, and of course surgery, if required. If not, he and Thor both badly need teeth cleaning, which is about $400 each. Any overage will be used for future medical/dental needs, as the American Eskimo breed (aka American Spitz) has a tendency toward dental problems.
Once we reach $200, I'll make an appointment to start the process of discovering what's wrong.
PS - His daddy calls him "Wheezer" - if he could hear it, I don't think Dewy would appreciate that!
