Air Filters for Lessness Primary School

Donation protected
At Lessness Heath Primary School we believe that every child has the right to learn in the best possible environment -including learning in one with clean air.

We are aiming to raise £20,000 to install and maintain air filters across our school, giving every child clean air to breathe wherever they go.

How does air quality affect learning at the school?

School absences increase when air quality is poor, for both staff and students. When pollution is high there are more asthma attacks, students will suffer from hay-fever during allergy seasons and in the colder months when the windows are closed students are exposed to viruses.

What does an air filter do?

Air filters act like 'air hoovers' to remove pollution, allergens and viruses from the air.

Impact on Education

Improving air quality has been proven to enhance academic progress and concentration, especially for those with asthma. Air filters remove pollution from the air, helping our children to breathe easy and focus.

Air filters also help to remove harmful viruses from the air, meaning that children do not get sick as often - in turn helping improve their attendance. Recent studies have show an improvement of up to 20% in some cases! They can also help keep staff feeling well, helping our children to receive consistent teaching from their class teachers.

Air filters remove allergens such as pollen from the air, making the school a much more comfortable place to learn in for all - both children and staff.

What is the purpose of air quality monitoring?

When CO2 levels rise above 800ppm concentration and focus are directly affected. This is usually most noticeable in the afternoon when windows have been closed all day. Students and staff alike may feel tired, have a headache or find it hard to produce their best work. Empowering teachers to monitor CO2 levels will help them in ensuring our children can focus and in turn make the best use of every minute spent in the classroom.

Lessness Heath are fully invested in making a difference from within to help promote better academic progress, attendance and wellbeing. Through reaching our target, we can help our children to be even more successful and possible help inform other school and policy in future.
