My name is George and I am a type one diabetic. I got diagnosed just seven days after my grandad passed away. To start with I struggled with understanding diabetes as I was only eight. Every birthday every Christmas I asked for a dog until one day my mum Said we could start saving for a dog as I would like to have had a dog to help with recognising my diabetes when I was going low.
Each year or two jobs help save.
by this point I had some money saved up ready to buy a dog and lots of research and I decided on the breed of a Doberman because of the background history they are the second most intelligent dog loyal they protects so I thought this would be my perfect dog so I started to look. I told my mum my plans she said if you can find a blue Doberman and I can have one.. my challenge was to find a blue Doberman, but really I think my mum didn’t really want me to have such a big dog and that’s why she gave me the challenge of finding a blue.
So if I went search the Internet for hours and hours to Mum‘s probably disappointment I found one but she was all the way in Kent. We had to have a girl dog which made my challenge even harder.
I emailed the lady she said there was only one girl dog left and somebody was going to see her that afternoon but they didn’t like her but they didn’t come. She would message. My fingers were crossed I prayed but the next day I get a phone call to say that she was available..
I couldn’t sleep. I just wished for the next day to come for that phone call and it did the lady said the other people didn’t show and the dog was still available so my brother drove all the way across to Kent to see her. We were just going into lockdown at this time. my brother FaceTime us and then she was this beautiful Doberman poppy but she wasn’t quite ready to leave her mum so we had to wait a week which was the longest week of my life.
She came home and instantly she just understood me when I was ill. She sat by my side and didn’t leave until I was better.. when I was having a hypo again she wouldn’t leave and she’d say my blood sugars came up whenever managed to get her trained because this time we are in full lockdown.
my mum let her sleep in my bedroom, but she never stayed in her bed. She was always in next to me if I was poorly through the night she would go into my mum and pull the duvet off her to wake her up so she could come and treat me. Then get back into my bed..
One day I took her for a walk and I wasn’t feeling very well while I was out but the next minute the dog run off I was so worried my mum rang as she could see. My blood sugars were low and all I kept shouting she’s run away she’s run away. My mum said don’t worry about Aoife. I’ll come and find her. Make sure you take your medicine to bring your sugars back on my mum went to open the door and Aoife was standing outside the front door. I think she ran off to let my mum know that was poorly on our walk. .
Aoife has been by my side for the last five years. I feel safe when she’s with me because I know she’ll help or just stay with me if I’m having a hypo.. in the last few weeks she started not want to walk with me and just sitting down which isn’t like her so he took us to the vets and the vet said she has a neurological problem and needs an MRI/CT scan which is really expensive and I don’t have all of the money to find out what’s wrong with my beautiful dog. I just wanted it if you would help me find the money, my dog is my world and I don’t know what I do without her ..
Please, please, if you can help I would be much appreciated. I love her with all my heart.
