In February 2026, I will compete in the Gaucho Derby—one of the most demanding and unforgiving endurance horse races on Earth.
As part of my entry, I am raising money for a charitable organization by February 5, 2026. I’ve chosen a cause that reflects the very heart of why I ride.
The Gaucho Derby is a 10-day, 500-kilometer self-supported race across the raw wilderness of Patagonia.
Riders navigate remote mountains, rivers, steppe, and extreme weather with just 22 pounds of gear, a map and compass, grit, and horsemanship. We camp outdoors with our horses, and push ourselves to physical and mental limits few ever experience.
It’s a race that strips everything down to fundamentals: trust between human and horse, resilience under pressure, and respect for what these animals are capable of when treated with care and dignity.
At the Gaucho Derby, success depends on listening to and honoring the horse beneath you, caring for them, and never taking more than they can give.
That ethos is why I’m dedicating my fundraiser to Nirvana Mustang Sanctuary.
Nirvana Mustang Sanctuary exists to save America’s wild mustangs.
Every year, tens of thousands of wild horses are forcibly rounded up from public lands using incredibly inhumane methods. Families are torn apart. Foals are lost. Horses are injured, traumatized, and funneled into overcrowded holding facilities and slaughter pipelines leading directly to their neglect, abuse, or slaughter.
Nirvana Mustang Sanctuary steps in where the system fails.
They rescue mustangs at immediate risk and provide:
- Safe, lifelong sanctuary
- Medical care and rehabilitation
- Gentle retraining when appropriate
- Space to simply be horses again
For many of these animals, Nirvana is the last line between survival and suffering.
