Ayuda a Aimée a terminar su maestría en Chicago

Hola, mi nombre es Aimée. Soy artista visual mexicana y actualmente estoy cursando una maestría en artes (MFA) en la School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC) en Estados Unidos. Tuve el atrevimiento de aplicar a la maestría sin el dinero necesario para pagarla, así que ahora ya llevo medio camino recorrido y necesito toda la ayuda financiera posible para terminar con éxito y titularme.

En los últimos años, mi trabajo ha pasado de experimentar con la traducción entre medios (por ejemplo, de la imagen al sonido) a contar historias a través de las artes visuales, con y sin palabras. Actualmente, diría que mi práctica artística explora cómo funcionan la comunicación y el lenguaje. A veces, mi enfoque multidisciplinar del arte ha sido un problema a la hora de solicitar becas porque las instituciones prefieren apoyar cosas que ya entienden y, como me dijo una vez Caro, mis proyectos tienden a operar fuera del algoritmo.

Por eso me emocioné mucho cuando Alina me contó que había maestrías híbridas en las que se puede asistir a la Universidad en persona sólo durante los veranos y el resto del tiempo estudiar en línea. Luiza me ayudó a buscar programas de este tipo en Brasil pero tristemente no encontramos ninguno. Thomas me habló del programa interdisciplinario Low Residency MFA de SAIC y decidí aplicar. Me aceptaron en mi primer intento y me dieron una beca al mérito, así que lo tomé como una señal para intentarlo y empecé el programa en el verano de 2024. Desde entonces he conocido a gente increíble y he ampliado mi conocimiento de todas las maneras posibles. Quiero utilizar este título de maestría para poder dedicarme a la docencia y entablar conversaciones con futuras generaciones de artistas.

Hasta ahora he intentado varias formas de recaudar fondos, pero algunas no han funcionado, así que para poder ir a Chicago este verano y continuar en el programa necesito de tu ayuda. Para mí es muy incómodo exponerme así en público, pero mi gente más cercana me animó a pedir apoyo a mi comunidad inmediata, así que aquí estoy.

Todo el dinero que se recaude será para pagar la colegiatura de la universidad y el costo de vida en Chicago por tres meses, de mediados de mayo a mediados de agosto 2025. Gracias infinitas por leerme, por compartir y por cualquier donación que puedas hacer. ¡Todo suma!

Hi, my name is Aimée. I'm a Mexican visual artist and, currently, I am pursuing an MFA at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC) in the United States. I was bold enough to apply without the necessary money to pay for it, so now I am halfway through it and I need all the financial help I can get to successfully finish my degree.

In recent years, my work has shifted from experimenting with translation between media (e.g. from image to sound) to storytelling through visual arts, either with and without words. Currently, I would say that my artistic practice explores how communication and language work. My multidisciplinary approach to art has been a problem sometimes when applying for grants because institutions want to support things they already understand and, as Caro told me once, my projects tend to operate outside the algorithm.

That is why I got very excited when Alina told me there were hybrid MFAs where one can attend University in person only during the summers and the rest of the time study online. Luiza helped me to look for such programs in Brazil but, sadly, we didn't find any. Thomas told me about the interdisciplinary Low Residency MFA program at the SAIC and I decided to apply. I got accepted on my first attempt and was given a Merit Scholarship, so I took it as a sign to give it a try and started the program in the summer of 2024. Since then I have met incredible new people and expanded my knowledge in every possible way. I will use this MFA degree to teach and engage in conversation with future artist generations.

I've tried several ways to fundraise so far, but some haven't worked out, so in order to go to Chicago this summer and continue in the program I need your help. For me it is very uncomfortable to expose myself like this in public, but my closest friends and family encouraged me to ask my immediate community for support, so, here I am. All money raised will go to pay for college tuition and living costs in Chicago for three months, from mid-May to mid-August 2025.
