An all-around athlete with a serious devotion to basketball and one of hip hop’s biggest fans, Odell Tamir Armwood has dreams equivalent to the size of his million dollar smile. Graduating from college with a degree in Communications and give back to his community were two of the countless things he hopes to achieve  May 2015.  After suffering from meningitis at six months old, Armwood lost his hearing and became Deaf. He comes from a loving family of two sisters, two nieces and nephew, whom he adores dearly. His hard working mother, Valerie, is always at his side. His father, a retired Army Veteran, died when O'dell was seven years old. As a true gentleman in his own right, lending a hand to others in need has always been in his nature.

As the only Liberal Arts University in the world for the Deaf, Gallaudet has witnessed hundreds and hundreds of hardworking students gracing the stage at graduation dance into their futures and create music with the tools they have picked up throughout the four-year experience. Slated to join a rapidly growing alumni on December 2014, Armwood would have danced to his own tune of success along with his other fellow graduates. A Communications Major, Armwood has defeated so many odds to complete school and get the degree he worked hard for.

On a cold day in November 15, 2014, his plans to finish school the next month came to a screeching halt as he became a victim. Armwood was visiting his stomping grounds known as the city that never sleeps- New York City. On the day he was supposed to go back down south to Washington, D.C., a car sped into the busy intersection where there were heavy traffic, especially with buses and cabs. The driver ignored the posted speed limit and paid no attention to who was crossing the street. The initial impact sent Armwood flying in air, subsequently landing on the windshield.

After being taken to the hospital, he was listed as critical with head trauma; Armwood was not conscious. No broken bones were visible. There is a delay in his left body. Day by day, he showed improvement with his vital signs and movements in his limbs. Because of the nature of the accident, it took a while for Armwood to respond in sentences, prompting doctors to realize that this would be a long road to recovery, with an emphasis in rehabilitation.

To God be the glory;  Armwood has been perservering toward a full recovery. Armwood's recovery phase must include extensive rehabilitation. In addition to a hospital bill that’s already steeped from the two months stay, the cost of rehabilitation digs a deeper hole that can be filled up with support- morally and financially. Although he has medical insurance, he is still in need of monetary assistance.

The hospital bill without rehabilitation, rehabilitation costs and ambulatory traveling funds back to North Carolina is needed to assist Armwood in his transition from New York City. An estimated total of $20,000 is needed to help him with his bills. Armwood is currently in NYC Subcute Rehabilitation; but is a resident of Greensboro, NC. Your support will be a part of Armwood’s triumph in recovery. Not only that, it would also allow him to get back on the road to seeing his dreams realized.

Any support is greatly appreciated! THANK YOU!
